Step into history, and leave your shoes at the door
In Svalbard, history is never far away, and at Funken Lodge, we want to honour and keep these local traditions alive. One tradition that’s stood the test of time is removing shoes before stepping indoors - a custom born during the coal mining era to keep coal dust out of homes and public buildings. We invite you to do the same as you enter Funken Lodge. We have slippers for you to borrow during your stay, or you are welcome to bring your own.
Forgotten something, or looking for the ideal gift?
You will find a small gift shop in the lobby, which offers a selection of essentials, locally crafted and Arctic-inspired items. Perfect for getting a special momento from your stay in Longyearbyen.
A Taste of Arctic Hospitality: Afternoon Treat
Wind down after your Arctic excursions with our complimentary Afternoon Treat, served daily from 16:00 to 17:00 at Funken Bar. Enjoy cake, coffee, and the cozy atmosphere— it’s our way of saying “velkommen hjem.”
Arrivals & Departures
Our standard check-out time is 11:00, and check-in begins at 15:00. Need some flexibility? Just let reception know - we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
To and From the Airport
Take the stress out of travel with the airport shuttle service. Ask at reception who will be able to share the latest departure times.
Weapon Storage
In the spirit of both tradition and safety, all weapons must be stored in the hotel’s secured weapons locker. Please visit reception upon arrival.
Luggage Storage
Do you need to store your luggage before check-in or after check-out? We have a dedicated room for that - simply ask at reception.
Laundry & Ironing Services
Laundry is available during your stay. In your room, you will find a laundry bag. Bring this to reception by 0900 (Monday–Friday) and we’ll have them cleaned and back to you by 1800 the same day.

Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel, so you can stay in touch and share your Svalbard experience with the world.
