Champagne Cellar at Funken Lodge
Hidden beneath the warmth and elegance of Funken Lodge lies a cellar with a remarkable story.
Once serving as the original Nordpolet, this was where the residents of Longyearbyen - miners, clerks, and officials alike - came to collect their regulated alcohol quota. It was one of the few places where social class lines blurred in a town otherwise marked by division.
In 1992, Nord Polet moved from Funken Lodge to a new location in the heart of town, and the cellar was transformed into a refined Champagne sanctuary. Today, the cellar holds what is likely the widest selection of Champagne in Norway, featuring labels from prestigious houses and rare vintage bottles offering an entirely different type of gathering—one rooted in indulgence and refinement.
Private Champagne Tasting
During a private tasting, you'll sample three carefully chosen Champagnes, each paired with an elegant canapé created to enhance the flavour profile. Hosted by our expert sommelier, the tasting is as much about storytelling as it is about fine bubbles, offering a memorable glimpse into both the Champagne world and the extraordinary history of Svalbard.

Duration: Tasting is available from 17:00, and usually lasts 1 hour.
Capacity: Between 2 and 8 guests.
Booking: Bookings must be made at least 48 hours prior to the event.
Larger groups can be booked on request, but please note that the tasting will take place in another room at Funken Lodge.
